What is a Virtual Machine?

A Virtual Machine (VM) is a compute resource that uses software instead of a physical computer to run programs and deploy apps. Virtual machines are created inside of a physical machine and have virtual components like CPU, GPU, memory, hard drives, etc. This allows virtual machines to run their own operating systems and programs.

GPU vs. CPU

GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) is specialized for processing the large amount of data involved in generating images in 3D graphics and videos.  GPUs are designed for parallel processing of thousands of calculations at once, making them much faster than CPUs at manipulating and displaying graphics.

CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the portion of a computer that retrieves and executes instructions, it handles all the main functions of the computer. CPUs are designed for tasks that require high computational speed.
