Nursing Informatics Fellowship Program
Vision Statement
Nursing informaticists (NI) create innovative technological solutions that enable clinicians to provide safe, high quality care for patients, families and the community.
Purpose
This one-year program will provide nurses with an opportunity to discover the world of nursing informatics through classes, practical experience and mentoring by a Nursing Informaticist.
Goals
- Provide nurses with an opportunity to experience and learn about nursing informatics through mentoring from NIs and practical experience completing a project using the system development lifecycle
- Improve CareConnect and/or workflows by developing and implementing optimization projects
- Provide NIs with the opportunity to share expertise in nursing informatics through mentoring
Experiences
Increase knowledge of nursing informatics by:
- Attending monthly in-person educational sessions provided by NIs and other content experts
- Developing a project to optimize the use of CareConnect with the assistance of an NI
- Meeting with ISS team members to identify ways to improve CareConnect
- Attending governance meetings
- Assist with testing, developing educational material and training
- Presenting project to nursing leadership and staff
Eligibility Requirements
Required
- Minimum of 3 years nursing experience
- Minimum of 1 year of employment at UCLA Health
- Employed at 50% or more time base
- Demonstrates readiness for leadership
- Strong interest in Nursing Informatics
- Time commitment of 8 hours per month
- Must be able to attend 90% of all in-person NI Fellowship meetings
- Able to complete a Nursing Informatics-related project
- Support from manager to participate
Highly Desirable
- Experience leading change or championing change
- Super User experience
