Choosing a new LMS

DGSOM currently hosts Elentra Learning Management System (LMS), also known locally as Gryphon. As
of June 30, 2025, Elentra Consortium that has been supporting the LMS will no longer exist. As a result,
this product retirement offered an opportunity to explore modern LMSs that better serve student learning and faculty needs.

The committee was composed of nominated faculty, students, representatives from Curricular Affairs, Education Technology Services (ETS), and the Educational Measurement Unit.

The decision to implement Instructure Canvas, also known locally as Bruin Learn, and One45 represents a comprehensive, multi-pronged evaluation. The committee identified key pain points in Gryphon and defined key requirements for the new solution. After evaluating several options through a thorough review process, Bruin Learn and Acuity One45 were selected. They best met the DGSOM’s requirements with a user-friendly, flexible, and streamlined interface. They stood out for their ease of use, modern interface, and strong integration with external tools.

Bruin Learn will be the content-hosting site for all DGSOM courses.

Acuity One45 supports the specific needs of our medical curriculum, including scheduling, assessment and evaluation. Students will be using One45 to provide and receive feedback, log their required clinical experiences, check course enrollment/completion, receive grades, among other things.

Migrating from Gryphon to Bruin Learn and One45

For faculty, contact the Curricular Affairs Office if you haven’t heard about the plan for your course.

For students, make sure you have downloaded any of your data that you would like to retain off Gryphon by December 2026.

In the meantime, UCLA Bruin Learn Center of Excellence has developed robust resources that you can explore to learn more about the platform. Training and support timelines are based on the course.
